Civic Centre
The absence of a meaningful civic centre has stripped the community of a shared sense of purpose and common virtues. The erosion of public space including civic and religious buildings has removed the symbolism and space that connects people to collective traditions and values. Rather the over saturation of dense housing has left the public realm unsafe. Rubbish lines the spaces where people would gather, forcing people inside. The lack of civic spaces and consequently the lack of civic engagement and pride perpetuates the issue. People turn into individuals as without architecture or symbols that evoke shared identity, these spaces fail to inspire or unify the community.
