OMAR RAMÍREZ-TEJADA

Omar is the Country Manager for the Dominican Republic, as well as the LDB Regional Coordinator for Latin American and the Caribbean. He is a biologist with more than 20 years of experience in Environment and Climate Change policies with a master’s degree in international public law and International Relations, a specialist in territorial planning of natural parks and protected areas, diploma in Municipal Management, and Managerial and Environmental Capacities. Former Secretary of State of Environment and Natural Resources and Executive Vice President of the National Council for Climate Change and Clean Development Mechanism; former Head of the Dominican Delegation to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) for eight years (2008-2016). Furthermore, he was an Environmental Advisor to the Presidency of the Dominican Republic and the National Coordinator of the CDEEE — Renewable Program for the promotion of renewable energy projects (wind, solar and biomass) with the private sector (2016-2020).

He ensured high-level political support for the development and implementation of Climate –Compatible Development Plan (Plan DECCC), The Assessment of Investment and Financial Flows to Address Climate Change and the national climate change learning strategy of the Dominican Republic. He has knowledge of Dominican environmental and municipal legislation for countries of the Caribbean Region and Central America and the Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEA). Experience in organizing national and international events and in the elaboration of public policies about environment, conservation of natural resources, climate change and sustainability.
